Every year thousands of kids are selected to be new captains of their teams — and while this can be a great honor for any youngster, it can also present a set of new and unexpected problems and challenges (The Parent’s Playbook). Captains are not only expected to help the team maximize on-field success, but they are also expected to be positive role models off the field as well. When you think about it, this is quite a lot of responsibility and can cause kids stress when they are ill-prepared for the duties that come with sports leadership.
